This pedagogical tool on what the Bible is, how to read it today and what we find in it was produced by Réjeanne Martin, s.s.a. (Sisters of Saint Anne) and supervised by the Bible scholar, Béatrice Bérubé.

Destined for women and incarcerated women, this workshop is limited to the Old Testament. It is called Travelling Through the Bible: A History of a People and Faces of Women. These six workbooks attempt to help us better understand our religious roots while opening a window to hope and giving a taste of life through a brief history of the events and real or symbolic people from Genesis to the birth of Jesus.

The first workbook goes through several periods in the Bible: the first steps of the Old Testament (I), the patriarchal era (II), Exodus and the installation into the land of Canaan (III), Royalty (IV), the Exile (V), and finally the Post-Exile — the Persian, Greek and Roman eras (VI). For each era, the author presents these women — remarkable, victims, rebels, chiefs, women often ignored in traditional Bible studies.

This tool presents in simple words the books of wiseness and poetry, combat and the call of fidelity to God and always, the prowess and good works of women. Parallels are drawn and questions are posed in order to understand the meaning of what was lived yesterday and similar situations that exist today (the exile of the Hebrews and the exile of the Acadians, the first-born sons being killed and the phenomenon of abortion, the ten plagues of Egypt — mainly the natural phenomena and meteorological disturbances that are more and more common today, the walk in the desert and learning to be solitary, birth, Vashti and sexist advertising, etc.).

By introducing us to the main female characters in the Bible, Réjeanne Martin helps us to discover or reminds us of the names and exploits of women who are rarely the subject of discussion, such as Shiphra and Pua (Exodus 1, 15).
