Women Inmates' Jury 2011

Organized by the Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal (RIDM), The Women Inmates’ Jury was made up of five female residents of the Joliette Institution, the only federal women’s penitentiary in Quebec. Among the eight films screened for them, Mélanie, Danielle, Despina, Christine and Ginette chose a winner: The Tiniest Place (El lugar más pequeño) by Tatiana Huezo. This initiative, a first in Quebec, is carried out in partnership with the Société Elizabeth Fry du Québec.

A presentation text was written by the jury and read by one of its members during the closing ceremony of the RIDM.

"We were honored to be able to watch all these interesting and engaging films, but there is one that touched us more than anything. We admire the courage and the determination of this small village that managed to pass through a bloody civil war, and despite the hostile climate, finds strength and ingenuity to survive. A film with captivating images, poetry in its form and tone. A film that made us shiver from inside, leaving an imprint on our souls. A celebration of faith, love, life. THE THINIESTPLACE! "
