Joliette Institution
Objectives
Since 1997, the Société Elizabeth Fry du Québec coordinates the activities of approximately twenty volunteers at Joliette Institution.
The Volunteer Coordination service consists of offering diverse social, recreational and cultural activities to the women of Joliette Institution. These activities are offered by residents of Joliette and the surrounding community.
The volunteers are responsible for several activities: pastoral, ecumenical activities, knitting and embroidery, accompaniment, tutoring, sports activities, AA meetings, support for the mother-child program, etc.
Thanks to the implication of members of the community, these women are able to benefit from the expertise of those individuals in the community who wish to help them. Since January 1997, more than 20 different activities have been offered with a total of 3000 hours of volunteer work.
The Team
The team of volunteers is managed by a coordinator who is present at the institution for 21 hours per week. In partnership with the personnel of Joliette Institution, she recruits, trains, counsels, and manages the volunteers in their diverse activities. Her role is to offer the support necessary to the volunteers in an effort to assist them in accomplishing their activities in a setting rich in human experience.
