Dance Workshop at Joliette Institution

Fall 2009

Four women incarcerated in the federal penitentiary Joliette Institution, an afro-contemporary dance artist and a videographer worked more than 30 hours on a filmed choreography. Three women put their personal experience with the relationship between incarceration and poverty to movement. In addition, two group sequences, inspired by the movements made by the four participants, were choreographed by the guest artist.  A green screen was used in the filming of this video dance in order to create a background other than prison in post production.
